Can Physical Therapy Relieve Sciatica?

Have you tried physical therapy?

Did it help relive your sciatica?

I have sciatica, caused by bulging of the spinal discs located between L-4 and L-5.

I have seen a Physical Therapist who has prescribed abdominal core muscles strengthening exercises.

Physical therapy may help but it will not get rid of pain due to the sciatica. If you have buldging discs nothing is really going to help that. I have problem with sciatica and nothing I have tried has helped.

Sciatica is very often a reversible condition. There is some evidence that general exercises, such as conditioning and core stabilization might help someone recover from sciatica, but there is stronger evidence that people who demonstrate a “directional preference” as described by the Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy paradigm get better faster and with much less risk of injury.

Core exercises MIGHT work, but if that fails or isn’t bringing you relief in a few visits, I would see someone who is certified in mechanical diagnosis and therapy. Go to http://www.mckenziemdt.org
